Last Kid Graduates, What Now?

Melanie, my youngest daughter, was about to graduate from high school, and I from motherhood. Now what?

I could become a devoted corporate wife, wax my legs and upper lip at the beauty parlor and sign up for seminars on menopause. Or I could find a new purpose in my life.

I have a total of 84 years of experience: two kids and a husband at an average of twenty years each and three dogs at an average of eight years each.

I learned the true meaning of listening, that it is done with the ears exclusively. In fact, there are times to zip it even when our young adult kids ask for advice.

I learned that eye contact is a must only when confronting a bank teller over a lost deposit, not necessarily when conversing with a teenager.

I learned that if I am sitting on the throne and there are two sheets left on the roll of toilet paper, it is not time to fill up, it is time to get even.

Clearly, I am overqualified for most jobs . . .
