Earl of Switzerland
By the time he finally saw me, he was
close enough to hug.
"Grandpa," I wrapped my arms around his big chest. "So good
to see you. How was your flight?"
Grandpa loosened my grip, "Pas de problem," he said in
French. Turning to the man beside him, he lifted his tweed cap.
The man waved back, "Nice to meet you Earl. Enjoy your
holiday!"
‘Earl’ I thought. ‘I must have misunderstood. Grandpa’s name
was Jacob.’ I reached for the suitcase. "We better get going. We
have six hundred kilometers to drive," I said, heading towards
the exit of the Vancouver International Airport.
Heavily favoring his left leg, he picked up my pace. "It is
six hundred kilometers to Williams Lake?" he asked, stopped and
pulled his cigar case from his inside jacket pocket. "And we are
driving all the way today?" He lit his cigar, "That’s insane."
In Europe, when driving that many miles, you cross at least
two countries.....
